• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

MESSAGE

The need for peace in our nations cannot be over emphasised. From vs.19‐22, what did you notice about the herdsmen of Gerar? How did Isaac react? How would you have responded if you were Isaac? People like herdsmen of Gerar, causing troubles and disrupting peace, abound in our communities in Africa. In the face of such provocation, believers should explore avenues for peaceful resolution and coexistence (Matthew 5:38‐ 40).

It is better to seek peace than confrontation, for the worst peace is better than the best war! Note also the resilience of Isaac’s servants. They were not discouraged in the face of opposition. They kept on digging wells until they got victory (v.22). What other lesson about peaceful coexistence is there for us in vs.26‐33 from the life of Isaac. Read vs.23‐25 again.

Of what importance is God’s message to Isaac at this time of his life? How refreshing is it, to know that God is always with us in our struggles (Matthew 28:20)! Vs.34‐35 show why we need to pray for our children to marry the right person.

Practice/Word Application
What Next: Pursue peace with all men (Romans 12: 16‐21; Hebrews 12:14).

Closing Prayer
• Lord Jesus, give me grace to seek peace through dialogue and be less confrontational in hostile situations.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Ephesians 3:20; 2 Chronicles 6, 7; Mark 12
