SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR JUNE 1, 2022 (GOD’S GRACE COVERS HUMAN WEAKNESSES)

Daily Guide 1 June 2022 | Scripture Union Devotional

Topic: God’s Grace Covers our Human Weaknesses

Opening Prayer: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Scripture: Genesis 20:1‐18

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Abraham is indisputably the father of faith. Although he had several encounters with God, he was still prone to human errors like we are. He was exposed to the same temptation once and again and he used the same trick to protect himself (vs.1‐2; Genesis 12:10‐20). Why would a man of God like Abraham tell a lie (v.11)? In what ways do we also behave like him? Abraham feared for his life, so he told half‐truth about Sarah (vs.12‐13).

Isaac also used the same deceptive tactics later (Genesis 26:7‐11). What these two patriarchs did is not an approval that we can tell lies to help ourselves. They acted in the flesh, depending on their human wisdom instead of trusting in God. Fear is an enemy of faith. It will rob us of our victory. Instead of entertaining fears and devising our ways in the face of dangers, let us learn to believe God’s promises and trust Him to protect us.

Observe how God in His mercy rescued Sarah from Abimelech (vs.3‐7). What does this teach us about God?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Lord, please free me from the temptation of relying on my wisdom in the face of danger and threats, but to always seek your direction so I may not go astray.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Psalms 65:2; 1 Kings 10, 11; Mtthew 28
