Scripture Union Daily Guide 1 February 2022 MESSAGE
It is very strange the way some people seem determined to reject the message of God’s love! The Pharisees and other religious leaders rejected John, who lived a life of self‐denial in the desert. They also rejected Jesus Christ who went into the city slums to fellowship with the poor and needy (vs.31‐34).
However, there are some people who are described as the children of wisdom, (v.35). Note who they are, and what else we learn about them in v.29. Jesus Christ did not sing the praises of John the Baptist until his disciples had gone away. What does v.28 say about you? Just imagine that, you are greater than John the Baptist! John was a faithful messenger who prepared the way for the Saviour. His ministry was before the suffering and victory of the Lord.
By contrast you and I belong to the other side of the Cross. We are “the children of wisdom” on account of the salvation we have obtained in Christ. It is now our privilege to be messengers of the Good News which Jesus Christ offers to all who will receive Him. How do we compare with John the Baptist in that?
