TOPIC: SING THE NEW SONG
OPENING PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Scripture: Psalm 149:1-9
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?
Outline
The ending of Psalm 148 continues into Psalm 149 addressing the people of God. Take note of the following expressions: ‘the assembly of the godly’, ‘the children of Zion’, ‘His people’ (vs.1,2,4). Their King in v.2 refers to the Messiah, Christ Jesus. All who have received Christ Jesus as their Saviour and Lord are invited to sing a new song to the Lord. Check Revelations 5:9-10 for the new song. Note that the Messianic era, in the year of our Lord, is characterized by great rejoicing in singing of praises.
Read vs.4-6 and observe that even on our beds, we should sing the praise of Christ and this we do with an extensive use of the word of God. It is worth noting that in the era of the Church, many songs have been composed to praise the redeeming work of Christ Jesus our Lord. Great Gospel musicians have been raised by the Holy Spirit to sing the new song unto the Lord. Can you consider the by-product of praise in vs 6-9?
With harps and with viols, there stand a great throng In the presence of Jesus, and sing this new song: Unto him who hath loved us and washed us from sin, Unto him be the glory for ever. Amen.
