MESSAGE
In our Bible text for today, Jesus had His hopes high when He sighted a fig tree full of leaves, while returning to Jerusalem. However, His hopes got dashed when He saw no fruit on the tree. The fig tree had taken
so much nutrition from the ground, only to produce leaves.
Although many Bible scholars say Jesus should not have cursed the fig tree because it wasn’t its season to bear fruits, we must not miss the moral lesson of the story which is that heaven is not happy when you take in all its investment and never bear fruits. Every time Jesus expects you to bear the fruits of righteousness or win souls and you fall short, it grieves His heart.
It saddens Gods heart when you’re merely full of leaves such as gifts of the Spirit with no fruits (souls) to show for it. After drawing up so many nutrients from spiritual activities and fellowship with Gods people, we are expected to influence others for Jesus. Note that Jesus verdict on the fruitless fig tree is a warning to you. I pray that you will not be marked for cutting down, in Jesus name.
Point: Father, please destroy by fire, every force against my fruitfulness.
