MESSAGE
From our Bible passage for today, we are presented with the story of the prodigal son who lived a life of extravagance and wastefulness. At the time he was spending his inheritance with his friends, they would have hailed him , saying he was Father Christmas/Santa Claus for being so kind and generous, whereas he was being wasteful.
Today, a lot of young ones cannot differentiate between a giver and a wasteful fellow. A giver is a person who gives generously to the poor and needy, in obedience to Gods word. A giver recognises a need in the life of someone and takes action by giving. A giver pays tithes and gives offerings. On the other hand, a Baby-Christmas gives to prove a point. He/she gives to show off.
A Baby-Christmas is stingy to the poor and needy because he/she feels they are lazy and not in his class. A Baby-Christmas would prefer to take his/her friends out and lavish money rather than give to the less privileged. A Baby-Christmas will never save money; he/she spends as soon as the money comes in, just like the prodigal son. The actions of a Baby-Christmas tend towards poverty and God is not happy
with such a fellow.
Point: Are you are a giver or a Baby-Christmas?
