Topic: Don’t Be Rebellious
Read: 1 Samuel 15:22-24
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
Memorise
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
1 Samuel 15:23
Message
Rebellion refers to opposition to authority or refusal to obey an authority figure. When a fellow outrightly disobeys an order or publicly rebuffs an instruction, we can call him or her a rebel.
God told King Saul to utterly destroy the Amalekites. He went but spared the best sheep, some oxen and King Agag; he obeyed partially and it was counted against him. This shows that with God, there is no partial disobedience. Any act of disobedience is rebellion and the Bible likens rebellion to witchcraft.
My child, you need to examine yourself today. In what ways have you been disobedient to God, your parents or the school authority? If you are in the higher institution and you join the Students Union Government executives to do Aluta against the School authority, you are rebellious.
It is good to speak politely when you disapprove of any situation that is against Gods word or poses a threat and discomfort to you but God doesnt support riot. He will not be happy with any fellow who refuses to respect authority.
Key Point
Repent and ask God for mercy now if you are guilty of the sin of rebellion.

HYMN: Let Others See Jesus In You
While passing through this
world of sin,
And others your
life shall view,
Be clean and pure
without, within,
Let others see Jesus in you.
CHORUS
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story,
be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.
Your life’s a book before
their eyes,
They’re reading it through
and through;
Say, does it point them to the
skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?
What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
In mansions beyond the blue,
To find some souls
that you have won;
Let others see Jesus in you.
Then live for Christ both
day and night,
Be faithful, be brave, and true,
And lead the lost to life and light;
Let others see Jesus in you.
