OPEN HEAVEN TEENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR AUGUST 9, 2022 (LEARNING OBEDIENCE)
TOPIC: LEARNING OBEDIENCE
Read: 1 Peter 1:1-5
Memorise
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8
It’s easy to be obedient when you are told to do what you wish to but difficult when you don’t like what you were asked to do. For example, if you like doing dishes and you were told to do the dishes after a meal, you would do so gladly but if you were asked to weed the garden when you don’t like to hold a cutlass or any gardening tool, you would likely decline to take up such a task.
As a child of God, you have to come to a point where obedience will be your nature. In fact the whole essence of Christianity is obedience to Gods word and those of the people He has placed in positions of authority to guide you. The elders have a saying that what an elderly person can see while sitting, a child cant see it even if he/she climbs on a tree. This means that the wisdom of an elder is needed by young people.
One way this wisdom will be passed across is through instructions. If you want to be wise, its best you prayerfully look for wise elders who will guide you into all that God has purposed for your life. If Jesus could obey God even to the point of death, you can, too.
Point
Father, please release upon me the spirit of total obedience to You.
