Topic: The Fear Of God (1)
Psalm 111: 8-10
Eccl. 12:13 – “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man”
The Bible talks about the express importance of the fear God. But what does this mean to us as His children? Simply put, it means to reverence God. Fear can either be a positive or negative emotion. When you have the right kind of fear, it will keep you out of danger. It will keep you out of trouble. It has no torment. The fear of God is not the cringing kind of fear of terror, but that of love. It is the kind of fear that reminds you to always be in right standing with God.
The fear of God is reverent awe. That is, holy wonder and respect for God’s power, majesty, splendour, and authority. Holiness produces in us a godly fear not to disobey or ignore His word. This attitude is necessary to gain wisdom that makes a great difference in our thoughts and attitudes. It keeps us from doing things that can lead us unto destruction. Acts 9:31 says, “Then had the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified, and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.”
This Scripture tells us that true fear of the Lord in our hearts will bring the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Do you fear God or you fear man more than God? The fear of man will ensnare you, but the fear of God will give you comfort and protect you in the journey of life. Remember, that to fear God and keep His commandments is all that is required of you.
As you reverence God, you remain His beloved forever in Jesus name. God Himself introduced Job as a perfect and upright man who feared Him and eschewed evil. No testimonial from any mortal can be better than this. Beloved, will God testify of you so admirably as He did Job? In case you do not fear God and hate evil, you can turn a new leaf today.
Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” Be wise!
Lack of the fear of God leads to self-destruction.
I decree that the power to reverence God shall come upon you today, in the name of Jesus.
HYMN – Christian, walk carefully
Christian, walk carefully: danger is near!
On in thy journey with trembling and fear;
Snares from without, and temptations within,
Seek to entice thee once more into sin.
Christian, walk carefully:
Christian, walk carefully,
Christian, walk carefully:
danger is near!
Christian, walk cheerfully through the fierce storm,
Dark though the sky with its threats of alarm;
Soon will the clouds and the trees be o’er,
Then with thy Saviour thou’ll rest evermore.
Christian, walk prayerfully: oft wilt thou fall,
If thou forget on thy Saviour to call.
Safe thou shalt walk through trial and care,
If thou art clad in the armour of prayer.
1. O God, my Father, let Your fear direct the affairs of my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. O Lord, my Father, let Your love be rooted in my heart, in the name of Jesus.
3. O Lord, give me the grace to follow You to the end, in the name of Jesus.
4. Let the love of the world be rooted out of my life, in the name of Jesus.
5. My Father, circumcise my heart to love You with all my life, in the name of Jesus.
6. Holy Ghost, take Your place in my life, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord, let Your fear teach me wisdom to live a successful life, in the name of Jesus.
