TOPIC: GOD’S RIGHTEOUS ACTIONS FOR SAINTS, SINNERS
Bible Text: 2 Peter 2:4-9
“If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the Day of Judgment, while continuing their punishment.” 2 Peter 2:9
In the year 2003, the Anglican Communion in the United States of America overtly supported the ordination of a gay bishop. On the other hand, the Anglican Bishops in Africa took a stand against that monumental unrighteousness. In spite of several international threats, the Bishops in Africa stood resolutely against the sinful and unscriptural practice. Each national communion had been waxing stronger and stronger ever since.
Apostle Peter gave three historical examples of how God had rescued the godly and righteous, and destroyed the wicked. Angels who sinned with Satan are incarcerated in dark dungeons, until the final judgment when they will be condemned in the lake of fire. In the same vein, Noah and his family were saved while every other human being was destroyed.
Similarly, while God rescued Lot and his daughters, the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were utterly destroyed by fire. Peter was sure that the evil and wickedness of false teachers would be punished while the righteous will be preserved.
The wise thing to do as believers is to ensure that we remain saints in words and actions. This is the only way to escape God’s just judgment coming upon all unbelievers. Because God is all-knowing, righteous and just, He knows how to reward each person according to his actions. Be on the LORD’s side in righteousness.
Insight: Righteousness preserves, while unrighteousness attracts destruction.
Prayer:
Father, uphold me because You will never allow the righteous to fall.
