TOPIC: LIVE THE FAITH WITH CONFIDENCE
Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 4:16-5:10
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day” 2 Corinthians 4:16, NIV
MESSAGE
Horatio Spafford who wrote the hymn “It is well with my soul” put his confidence in the Lord in the midst of prosperity and calamity. He had earlier lost his entire estate business to an inferno and that created emotional trauma for his wife. He then sent his wife and four daughters to Europe from Chicago for a relief in 1873 only to receive a telegram that the four daughters had been drowned in the sea and the wife was saved alone. It was at the spot of the mishap that he penned the hymn “It is well with my soul.”
Apostle Paul like Horatio was faced with series of challenges, but in the face of it all, he held tenaciously to his faith and lived with the confidence that there is succour in the heavenly dwelling. He considers the momentary afflictions light compared to the glory that awaits him in God’s Kingdom.
Faith does not remove obstacles, but gives the assurance that we can overcome them. Believers must live with the confidence in the heavenly glory and face immediate challenges with optimism of victory in the Lord. We should confess like Job in Job 19:25 “for I know that my Redeemer liveth…”
Insight: We live by faith and not by sight.
Prayer: Lord, give me sufficient grace to look unto You always.
