TOPIC: LOVE GOD BY KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS
Bible Text: John 14:15-24
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my father, and I too will love them and show myself to them” John 14:21, NIV
Parents will always love children who keep the rules of the house, do the chores, and run errands without grumbling. The love of a father or mother usually depends on the extent to which children keeps their commandment.
Jesus clearly states that for the disciples to be loved by God as they desire, keeping the commandments of God is a major factor. In the passage today, Jesus Christ implored the disciples to show their love for Him by keeping all the commandments He gave them while He was with them. As He was about to leave them, He promised them the Holy Spirit and the ever protective love of God if only they keep His commandments.
We cannot claim we love God, when we do not love our neighbour, or involve in violent and other criminal activities. The Holy Spirit cannot function in your life if your lifestyle is not reflecting complete obedience to the commandments of God. We are to love God with all our hearts, minds and souls, and love our neighbours as ourselves. Determine to obey the commandments of God every day and the love of God will dwell richly in your life.
Insight: Obedience is better than sacrifice.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to yield to Your instruction and abide in Your commandments always.
