TOPIC: TESTING OUR LOVE FOR GOD
Bible Text: Deuteronomy 13:1-4
“You must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer, The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 13:3, NIV
MESSAGE
Leah Sharibu, the young Nigerian Northern Christian girl who was captured in 2018 alongside 110 girls from their school in Dapchi, Yobe State remains in captivity because she refused to convert to Islam. When other girls were released by the terrorists, she was detained. Her faith was tested but she chose to stand for God.
God told the Israelites of the kind of test they would be subjected to. One major test was whether they would believe the report of a false prophet and follow other gods apart from the Sovereign God. Committing to following God in the midst of temptation to serve other gods determines whether they truly love God.
Today, many have fallen into the hands of false teachers, temporary miracle workers, motivational speakers, gods of money, diverse errors, and love for the world that continuously puts their faith to test. You must determine to keep and obey the commandments of God at all times. Hold fast to God. Don’t look to the right or to the left, treat God as your only option.
Temptations will always come, the devil will always test our love for God, but we must determine never to let anything separate us from the love of God. Make that resolution today to follow the path of God at all times.
Insight: The test of our love for God shows up in different dimension in our lives.
Prayer: Lord, may my love for You never grow dim no matter what comes my way.
