A lady who broke her relationship with her fiancé said, “I’ve realized that I never really loved you. Sure, I said that I did many times, but that doesn’t mean it was true, even though I didn’t realize it back then. I’ve recently faced the cold, hard truth that I only loved what you represented, and maybe that’s why our relationship ended so prematurely.”
Like this lady, the crowd was frantically looking for Jesus, because they knew He could satisfy their appetite for food that perishes. They did not really believe He has eternal life and can give it to them. Sadly, many people who go to church still seek and follow Jesus for mundane things and not for the salvation of their souls. Some people still live as if eternal life is a mirage. They profess it, but are not working it out with fear and trembling.
Do you believe the one that God has sent? The true test is found in the difference between the value you place on the Word of Christ and the tangible things He gives. How important are His instructions for living to you? If you believe Him, you will obey Him.
