TOPIC: WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL?
Read: 2 Corinthians 10:7-12
2 Corinthians 10:7-12 You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.
So even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it.
I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters.
For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.”
Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.
We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.
MEMORISE: We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. (2 Corintians 10:12).
EXPOSITION
Imitation is trying to be like someone, possibly because of one’s admiration of such personality and the way of life. Many use others as their role models or yardsticks for doing virtually everything they do, and this greatly influences such people’s lives, sometimes negatively.
As a Christian, the only One Who should be our Role Model and Yardstick is Jesus Christ, the only perfect and holy One (Heb.12v2). Of course, it is not bad that you follow good examples that have backing in the Bible (c.f.. 1 Cor. 11v1).
You see, as a pastor, an Evangelist, a prophet or a teacher does the will of God in all things, their followers can follow suit, but should they stray, such followers shouldn’t follow their sinful ways.
Dear devout, did you know that God didn’t create you to be a second fiddle to anyone in life? You are uniquely and fearfully made. Why must you do the exact thing that somebody else does and lamentably in the same way? Imitators have limitations! No imitator goes beyond what or whom he imitates! This is surely not a correct life to live! You should be your own kind.
Trying to walk, eat, talk, etc., exactly like how someone else does doesn’t make you original. A copy can makes you to lose your originality. No one is created without unique and wonderful potentials that if well developed and properly deployed are capable of bringing one before kings (Prov. 22v29).
Laziness can lead to imitation! When people commit intellectual frauds like piracy, it is lack of diligence in using their original talents optimally. Imitation is one of the main reasons innovative or creative productivity is very low! As this affects secular sectors, so it is with the sacred one. Desist from imitation, today and always, in order to be your best, God helping you.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. I refuse to limit myself through unnecessary imitations, in Jesus name.
2. I refuse to be a carbon copy of anybody or anything, in Jesus name.
3. Lord, raise more good and godly models that would mentor and disciple the upcoming ones in Your path, and unto Your glory.
