TOPIC: GLORY TO GOD’S NAME ALONE
Bible Text: Psalm 115:1-3, 9-18
“Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.” – Psalm 115:1, NIV
MESSAGE
It is customary for people to celebrate their achievements and successes, especially in Africa. Most often, during such celebrations, applauds are reeled out to the celebrants. The temptation associated with such celebrations is that people tend to arrogate the glory due to the name of God to oneself or others who were part of the story. Those who have fallen into this temptation usually live in regret. Herod and Nebuchadnezzar are case studies.
The psalmist, in recognition of the love and faithfulness of God, ascribed glory to His name. As long as a person is alive, his existence should bring glory to God. The ability to trust God and walk in His fear are other expressions through which we give glory to God (vs. 9-11). The name of God should be glorified because of His blessings upon the lives of His faithful ones. No one should take the glory over our lives. People might have blessed us in one way or another; we should remember that they were only used by
God at that time. Also, everything we have comes from God, so we must give glory to Him always.
Do you seek to promote your ego and wisdom at the expense of God’s help towards you? Resolve today to use your life and vocation to glorify God daily.
Insight: When you give God glory, He takes you to a place of greater glory.
Prayer: God of glory, help me to always acknowledge and glorify You in all I do.
