Read vs.15&17-21. Discipline is a very important component of every human endeavour, whether individual or corporate. The absence of it spells doom. The verses present various aspects of life where discipline is a necessity: 1. The home (vs.15,17,19,21): Parents should take responsibility to discipline their children. All aspects of discipline are required – moral, physical, mental and spiritual. See Luke 2:52.
Those serving as house-helps also need godly discipline and should neither be pampered nor abused. The best mode of discipline is the Gospel of Christ Jesus our Lord. 2. The Church and Society (vs.18,19,25-27): In the Church, ‘prophetic vision’ is an absolute necessity. This is embedded in the presentation and teaching of the Gospel to lead adults and children to a personal knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord.
If we fail to evangelize, many undisciplined and unrestrained youths will arise and cause trouble. Our society will thrive only when we have leaders who trust in the Lord and are just in all their ways. Now read vs.20,22-24.
To what aspect of our personal lives are these verses referring? Christians who are growing properly should be mindful of how they speak. Hasty speeches and comments are many times not very helpful. Watch your anger (v.22; cf. James 1:19-20).

Closing Prayer
• Lord, teach me by your Spirit to be self-controlled and disciplined in word, thought and deed.
• Pray to walk in the power that raised Jesus from the dead.
