TOPIC: CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD
Bible Text: Joel 2:28-32
“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.” Joel 2:32, NIV
An author penned the following words about prayer: *“Prayer pulls the rope below and the great bell rings above in the ears of God. Some scarcely stir the bell, for they pray so languidly; others give but an occasional pluck at the rope; but he who wins with heaven is the man who grasps the rope boldly and pulls continuously, with all his might.”*
In our passage today, we learn of the blessings that would come afterward. The prophecy was fully fulfilled on the day of Pentecost. Joel spoke of three promises for the future. The promise of the Holy Spirit (vv.28-29), the promise of wonders on the day of the LORD (vv.30-31) and the promise of salvation for the remnant (vs.32). In the midst of judgment and catastrophes, God promised salvation and deliverance to “everyone who calls on the name of the LORD” (vs.32a).
To call means to believe in God as He reveals Himself in the Scripture, to call upon His name in prayer and to confess His name. How well do you use this lifeline called prayer? You have to call for God to answer. You can call upon the LORD today, and you will be saved.
Insight:
God’s ear is always open to anyone who calls upon Him.
Prayer:
LORD, I come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.
