TOPIC: GOD’S RIGHTEOUS WRATH
Bible Text: Romans 1:18-23
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness.” Romans 1:18, NIV
MESSAGE
Mrs James was a teacher in a particular secondary school. Most of the teachers who came to school late would falsify time in their favour but she always writes the correct time which always exposes the lies of other teachers in the Time book.
They then ganged up against her to persecute her; even including her church member. The attitude of Mrs James’ colleagues is typical of those trying to suppress the truth.
The sad truth is that many Christians are like Mrs James’ colleagues. They know what is right, say what is right and criticize or condemn what is wrong only when they are not beneficiaries.
Today’s passage makes two things clear; (1) God’s righteousness – because He has given every one understanding of right and wrong and (2) God’s terrible anger that will come upon all those who suppress the truth.
Believers are meant to uphold the truth in every situation. There should not be double standard when a believer is involved.
In what way are you suppressing the truth? It is the duty of every Christian to uphold, encourage and abide by the truth at all times. Determine to do the right thing at all times to avoid God’s wrath.
Insight: Avoid anything that will make you lie, oppose the truth or do what is wrong.
Prayer: LORD, please deliver me from anything that could cause Your wrath upon me.
