Topic: God’s Watchman
Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Ezekiel 3:12-27
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any command for me to obey?
Ezekiel was bitter and angry not with God but the sins and attitudes of the people. Despite his initial reluctance, he later determined to do God’s will and God commissioned him as a watchman. He sat quietly among the people for seven days (v.15). This was a customary period of mourning for the dead (see Genesis 50:10; 1 Samuel 31:13). It is a serious thing to be God’s watchman because destinies of precious souls are involved.
Read vs.16-21 and notice the consequences of either being a faithful or unfaithful watchman. What type of watchman are you? Do you know that the destiny of the unsaved souls is tied to your work as watchman called to raise the alarm to the sinful world? The watchman must be alert and seize every opportunity to fulfil his calling (Ephesians 5:15-16). Reflect on vs.22-27 and take note of the assurances that we, like Ezekiel, have in God when we move out in obedience to His call (cf. Matthew 28:20b)?
Practice/Word Application
• Thought: Can you say like Paul, ‘I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven’ (Acts 26:19, NIV) and so I am preaching to great and small.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Ask God to make you a faithful watchman and a witness of our Lord Jesus in our generation. • Pray against errors, false doctrines and unhealthy competition among Church leaders.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 16:8; Jer. 46-47; Matt. 28
