MESSAGE
“In the last days” refers to the future in general. Here, it refers to the time when God will restore Israel and establish His kingdom on earth. This was inaugurated at the first coming of Christ and will end at Christ’s second coming at the end of the age. The Lord’s temple and Jerusalem that would be laid waste (3:12) because of their sins will be restored and established again. Read vs.1‐5 again and compare with Isaiah 2:2‐5.
Enumerate some of the results of re‐establishing the mountain of the temple of the Lord in Zion. The peace described in vs.3‐5 is what the world needs today. It was inaugurated at the coming of Christ and the preaching of the Gospel but will be accomplished at the millennial reign of Christ. Look at vs.6‐13 and identify what the Lord intends to do with His people. Going into captivity was part of God’s plan.
At the appropriate time, he will restore them back to the Land. The picture of bringing back the lame and grieving remnants point to the spiritual healing and restoration that will take place when God brings back His people to Himself.
