SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL FOR AUGUST 17, 2022 ( DIVINE DIRECTION)
TOPIC: DIVINE DIRECTION
OPENING PRAYER: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 45: 16 – 46:7
MESSAGE
The family of Joseph were to be relocated to Egypt. Notice the kindness of Pharaoh to Joseph, and to his relations though it was a time of scarcity. He engaged Joseph to bring his father down to Egypt and promised to provide them with all that would make their stay comfortable.
The brothers returned to their father with the report that Joseph was alive and not only that, but a key leader in Egypt! How would you have felt if you were Jacob? Believe or sceptical? Read Genesis 46:1‐4 again. The journey of Jacob and his family to Egypt was a very decisive one.
Indeed, Jacob’s migration was not prompted by Joseph’s invitation; it was divinely authorized (46:3‐4). The stay in Egypt was only to be temporary; indeed, it was part of the divine purpose (see 15:13‐14). What does Jacob’s sacrifices at Beersheba remind us of?
The importance of waiting on the Lord and seeking His face in any endeavor we undertake cannot be overemphasized. God rewarded Jacob with a vision in the night by which he was assured of His guidance on the trip and stay in Egypt. Time spent in the presence of the Lord is extremely rewarding and must never be exchanged for anything.
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Closing Prayer
• “Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but Thou art mighty, Hold me with Thy powerful hand. Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more”.
