SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR JUNE 29, 2022 (DESIRE FOR CHILDREN)
TOPIC: DESIRE FOR CHILDREN
OPEN PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Genesis 30:1-24
MESSAGE
Some married couples have been together for many years without bearing children. But it is always good to leave the situation in the hands of God, especially when all the factors that can cause infertility have been identified and dealt with medically. God is sovereign and He knows what is best for us at every point in time. (v.2; Genesis 25:21; 29:31).
The desire for children when not properly handled leads to competition, rivalry and show off as seen between Leah and Rachel (v.1). It can even take us away from the God we serve. Rachel cried to Jacob “Give me children or I will die” (v.1). She forgot as many do today that “Children are a gift from the LORD” (Psalm 127: 3).
Let us go to him for mercy, and continue to be thankful, for He cares. We must not run from pillar to post, Church to Church, man to man, tradition to fetishism for self‐help and man‐made solution at the expense of our faith and life. Let us take Jeremiah’s word in 17:5 very seriously.
In Africa, barrenness is erroneously considered as bad luck and the blame is usually on the woman. Couples must trust God for answer to their prayers. (vs.22‐24).
