TOPIC: PROMPT ACTION OF A SENSITIVE MOTHER
Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th June 2022 Opening Prayer: As I read your word O Lord, grant me an insight and grace to do your will in Jesus name.
Scripture: Genesis 27:41‐28:9
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
MESSAGE
Esau was grieved for losing his blessing and he was determined to revenge (v.41). Do you think his anger was justified? For every setback we suffer, we have our own share of the blame. But on many occasions, we are very quick to blame others instead of finding out where we were wrong. Rebekah quickly took steps to ensure that Esau fails in his plot (vs.42‐46)?
When you sense danger around your family, how do you respond? Isaac and Rebekah contributed greatly to breeding the hatred between the two brothers that had now developed into threat to life. We should be wary of preferential treatment of our children.
It can create permanent hatred among them. Note that the negative situation led to dialogue between the parents which led to clarity, informed decision, and a timely and godly counsel for Jacob about whom to marry (28:1‐5).
However, the bitterness and rivalry in the family would have been avoided had this dialogue happened earlier. How do you see Esau’s decision to go and marry a daughter of Ishmael (vs.8‐9)?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th June 2022 Closing Prayer
• Oh Lord, help me to be sensitive to things happening around me and give me wisdom to respond promptly and appropriately.
