SEEK DAILY (NBC) DAILY DEVOTIONALS FOR FEBRUARY 27, 2022 (A CALL TO HUMILITY )
TOPIC: A CALL TO HUMILITY
Bible Text: Luke 14: 7-11
Memory Verse: “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 14:11, NIV
Humility is a great virtue, pride is a vice; – it eats up like cankerworm. Humility precedes servanthood while Pride brings self-promotion. Pride makes a man to think only of himself while humility makes a man to give consideration to others. Humble people don’t act to impress nor gain attention of others, they are selfless.
This is the lesson Jesus emphasised in today’s passage, specifically for those who love to take a place of honor and strive to draw attention to themselves in public functions. Jesus stressed that it’s more honorable to allow the host to invite the guest to the seat of honor than for the guest to presumptuously assume the highest reserved position. Jesus remarked that this act could bring disgrace.
Do you show up at functions only when you would be given due recognition? Jesus demonstrated great humility and we must follow after His steps. He showed to us that real servants always maintain low profile and that is why He came in the form of a servant and died a shameful death on the cross. As a result, He was exalted such that His name commands respect both in heaven and the earth. Be determined to demonstrate humility today.
Insight: Pride will always go before destruction.
Prayer: O Lord, take out every form of pride in me, place in me the spirit of humility.
RBT Passage: Deuteronomy 20-22
